Located in Melgaço Portugal's northernmost area which is protected by a range of mountains that create the conditions necessary for the best ripening of Alvarinho grapes. Soalheiro has been at the fore front of establishing this subregion’s reputation, and is the benchmark producer in the area and with that reinventing Vinho Verde.
The grape variety is known as Alvarinho in Portugal and Albarino in the Spanish province of Galicia. In the 1970s, a passion for winemaking led João António Cerdeira, with the support of his father, António Esteves Ferreira, to plant the first Alvarinho vines and to create the first brand of Alvarinho in Melgaço in 1982.
The grapes are harvested manually in small boxes and are quickly carried to the winery. The objective of vinification is to obtain an Alvarinho that concentrates the quality of the grapes and that allows to a good evolution the bottle
Soalheiro’s Alvarinho ‘classico’ is, vintage after vintage, consistently bursting with vibrant, sun-drenched fruit and fresh minerality. A bright, lemon-yellow colour. This wine is distinguished by its fresh and elegant fragrance, revealing the aromatic complexity of Alvarinho variety. The flavour has intense tropical and mineral notes that balance perfectly with the acidity and moderate alcohol content.
Excellent as an aperitif or to complement lighter-flavoured dishes. It pairs well with foods such as seafood, grilled fish, white meats, matured cheeses, smoked meats, or Asian and Mediterranean gastronomies.
