A great new addition to our Burgundy selection from the oustanding 2020 vintage
Domaine la Soufrandise is located in Fuissé, in the centre of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. 'Clos Marie’ is a walled single vineyard, located just next to the cellar. The Chardonnay vines are 31-53 years old, producing beautifully concentrated fruit. The vines are Guyot trained and are planted on clay and limestone soils. Nicolas practices sustainable viticulture in the vineyards.
The grapes were gently pressed using a pneumatic press to retain the delicate aromatics. The must was transferred to a mix of stainless-steel tanks and oak barrels, 20% of which were new. Fermentation took place using only indigenous yeast and the wine went through malolactic fermentation. The wine aged in tank and oak for 10-11 months, with occasional batonnage, depending on the vintage. The wine was fined using bentonite and bottled in August following harvest.
The Pouilly-Fuissé `Clos Marie` boasts concentrated aromas of tropical fruits and white flowers, with more subtle nuances of honeysuckle. There is finesse and freshness on the palate, with flavours of crisp apple and stone fruit complemented by a vibrant acidity on the finish.
