Another legendary producer, this is your benchmark Australian Chardonnay that helped put the style on the map. Famed for its power and richness, and full use of oak, the wine has become a little more pared back in the last year or two but at its core is still the famous Block 20 Chardonnay and the Mendoza clone that give this wine its trademark longevity and depth of power.
'Fermented in French barriques (40% new) and 9 months on lees with regular stirring. Fruit-driven bouquet with pear, citrus and stone fruit most noticeable, and a background note of nougat or marzipan, presumably an oak influence. There's a good mouthful of flavour here, ripe and juicy, finishing with a grapefruit-like tang that lingers.' 93pts, James Halliday
