    Description

The 16th century Château de Beaucastel was acquired by the Perrin family in the early 1900s. With a global following for their benchmark Châteauneuf du Pape, the wines at this historic property are consistently among the finest in the region.

Beaucastel make a tiny quantity of white Châteauneuf-du-Pape from 80% Roussanne, grown on limestone based soil. It is a beautifully textured, balanced and expressive wine. This wine is pale yellow in colour. On the nose, there are intense aromas of apple, lemon and pear. It is a fresh, vibrant and crisp wine with balanced acidity.

Composed of biodynamically cultivated grapes, the 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is a blend of 80% Roussanne, 10% Grenache Blanc and the remainder split between Bourboulenc and Piquepoul. Lively aromas of honeysuckle, acacia, grapefruit, lemon peel and white peach waft from the glass, with a touch of reduction. Slightly oily-textured and medium to full-bodied, it is distinctively juicy and fresh. Winemaker César Perrin recommends enjoying this wine until 2026 and then again after 2036. I’m slightly less enthusiastic with regards to the drinking window, but this is a delicious and age-worthy white. 94 Points, Vinous
