Description

Owned by Scottish Norrel Robertson, he has been working in the world of wine for more than 20 years. In 2003 he arrived with his family in Spain and in 2004 he launched his first wine on the market with the aim of expressing the characteristics of the Garnacha in Calatayud in his wines. Since the 1990s he has gained experience working in different countries; Italy, Portugal, Australia, France, Chile and Australia.

The 2018 vintage is made from four vineyards of Garnacha, situated between 750 and 900 m elevation, fermented together in an open vat with 20% whole bunches. The wine remained sur lie in used 500-litre, fine-grained French oak barrels for 12 months. This is made in a tiny production of 4,100 bottles and 150 magnums.

Wine review:

The 2018 El Cismático was produced with old-vine Garnacha from the villages of Villarroya de la Sierra and Cervera de la Cañada, four small vineyards. As a lot of the reds are completely unoaked, this felt quite oaky and creamy, one that needs a little more time in bottle to absorb the impact from the wood. The wine is floral, expressive, showy and exuberant, peachy and juicy, with very fine tannins, with good acidity and balanced alcohol, harmonious, reflecting a slow and good ripening of the grapes. Most of these reds are showy and exuberant, not shy wines at all, generous and hedonistic.' 95 pts Luis Gutiérrez, RobertParker.com
