Pieter Walser is one of the most innovative winemakers in the world, and is the producer of some of SA’s most coveted wines that you’ve probably never tasted. Within BLANKBOTTLE there are no 2 wines alike and about 30% of the wines are once-off limited editions. Pieter crafts unique wine blends, picking about 35 grape varieties from 60 vineyards around the Cape. Each of his wines is bottled and labelled according to the unique story behind it. The main aim of BLANKBOTTLE wines is to provide an honest, personal taste with no preconceived expectations that come with certain vintages or styles.

'This is the new release of Smaug the Magnificent. Like with most great things in life - this wine originated with a really bad experience where the liquor board stopped with sales of the 2011 vintage. Smaug is back and it's all about showing what age can do to a South African white blend. I bottled this wine in 2018 and have been ageing it ever since. Not great for cash-flow, but very promising for the wine! The 2018 vintage is just about to start showing it's true colours. A super cool, nutty, grippy mineral yet fresh 3-year old South African white. Made to age for another 5 to 7 years.' Pieter Walser, Winemaker 

'This is of pale golden colour with youthful silver highlights. The nose is fragrant with lemon balm, lemon verbena, cinnamon vanilla sweet spice along with delicious roasted hazelnut and almond skin. Medium bodied, with good acidity on the palate. Underripe pineapple, hints of Mango & papaya this is long with an oily, creamy texture. Love it!' Philglas & Swiggot
