Domaine Montirius is one of the stars of the appellation, and deservedly so, judged by the care afforded to its wines by Christine and Eric Saurel. They represent the fifth generation to work this 57 hectare domaine in the heart of Vacqueyras and their property, now farmed entirely by biodynamic principles.
The Village Vacqueyras is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah. Vacqueyras is often recommended as a great alternative to Châteauneuf-du-Pape but this is much more restrained and almost Burgundian in style. A lovely perfume of fresh pure fruit with garrigue hints, a red fruit palate and an elegant, floral finish make it a great accompaniment to roast duck or lamb.
