Description

In 1985 after ten years abroad, Karl Heinz Johner and his wife Irene founded a little Weingut (vineyard & winery) in their home village “Bischoffingen” in the Kaiserstuhl. His focus was set on the Burgundy-wines full of structure and pure elegance. Despite having to overcome problems relating to winemaking in the Kaiserstuhl and German wine laws the young Weingut soon established himself as a pioneer of a new German winestyle recognised as being of an international class. Today “Weingut Karl H. Johner” is considered to be one of the best estates in Germany and is well-known amongst most wine experts..

Complex dark scent of toasted wood, tobacco and dark berries. Surprisingly full-bodied on the palate. The tannins are round with some subtle residual astringency. Medium acidity and nice length.

Food match:

Ravioli with mushrooms, quiche or grilled pork.
