Description

The Scarbolo estate in Lauzacco is located only 15 km from the Italian border with Slovenia. Seven separate vineyards, comprising 30 hectares, are planted to traditional Friulian varieties — Friulano (formerly Tocai Friulano), Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet and Pinot Grigio.

A selection of Pinot Grigio from a vineyard panted more than 30 years ago. 50% vinified in oak and the balance in stainless steel. 11 months maturation then another 6 months ageing as a blend in tank before bottling.

Lovely vinous texture and weight, rich and concentrated with terrific intensity. Beautiful wine.

100% Pinot Grigio. Grapes were destemmed and crushed. Natural decantation followed by fermentation in stainless steel. After nine days 40% of the young wine is racked off in 20-hl French and Slavonian oak casks to finish fermentation. Both batches are aged on the lees for 18 months in their respective containers with regular bâtonnage. After assemblage the wine ages a further 12 months in stainless steel. Intense straw yellow. Gorgeous nose of candied orange, ripe nectarines, camomile and a hint of sweet, nutty oak. Citric full viscous palate with the merest suggestion of oak. Bitter grapefruit and lively citric nerve adding a lemony twist on the finish. A brilliant and expressive wine from a torrid vintage. (WS) 13% Drink 2021 – 2026 Jancisrobinson.com
