Origin: Crozes-Hermitage / Northern Rhône / France
A new discovery for us but what a delightful find. Laurent is the 6th generation of his family to run the estate, taking over in 2002 and converting the property to organic farming. They own around 7 hectares of vineyards around Hermitage that qualify for Crozes Hermitage (Syrah) and Saint Peray (Marsanne).
A single 3.5-hectare vineyard on the back of Hermitage itself and planted to 100% Syrah. A steep, terraced site of 40-year-old vines planted on clay-limestone, giving this lovely grip and structure. I liked this most of the three lieu-dits Crozes in the tasting, a fresh and lifted style with cracked pepper, sage brush and blue-black fruits. Seductive charm and superb value for money.
