Description

Siran is a little gem in Margaux and the wines are beautiful. Château Siran has 25 hectares under vine with an average age of 30 years. The soil type is alluvial sandy gravel and the blend generally comprises 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and the remainder Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. After fermentation in stainless steel vats, the wine spends 12-14 months in barriques; about 60-70% are new each year.

This charming wine expresses balsamic hints (exotic wood) blended in a clear and generous black fruit. The vibrant palate seduces by its denser-than-usual structure, organised around marked but creamy and fine tannins. The wine is fruity, particularly on the finish.

The 2020 Siran was picked from September 16 to October 3 with an average yield of 36hl/ha, and matured in a prudent 35% new oak. It has a superb bouquet of vibrant black cherries, blueberry and violet scents on the nose – one that could only come from this appellation. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent but firm tannins, a crisp line of acidity and beautifully integrated oak. This is very cohesive and offers impressive salinity on the finish. Best Siran to date? I think so. 92-94 Points. Neal Martin, Vinous.
