André Dezat made both Sancerre and his Domaine famous over 40 years ago. The Domaine is now in the safe hands of his sons Louis and Simon Dezat and their respective sons Arnaud and Firmin. Their wives, Sylvie and Nadine, run a very efficient office. Firmin studied in Tours and spent several months at our Californian winery Cuvaison.
The Dezats’ 20 hectares of Sancerre are superbly situated around five villages. Low yields, and enormous care in the vineyards and cellars make for only the finest Sancerre.
They also have Domaine Thibault in Pouilly-Fumé. Some years ago, André Dezat bought 4.5 hectares of particularly well-sited vineyard near Tracy, which has been expanded a little each year to a total of 15 hectares, with parcels in other communes including St. Andelain and Nozet. Of their 15 hectares, 65% are from the clay/limestone pebbles, 25% limestone and clay and 10% flint.
'This has an elegant nose of citrus fruit and white blossom, subtle sweet herbs and a hint of mint as well as a chalky minerality; dry on the palate with crisp acidity, white blossom, and yellow apple. Easy-drinking and fairly straight forward Sauvignon Blanc with good intensity.'
