Ameztoi Txakoli Basque Country 2022

Description

We can never quite work out if the ozone and saline quality of this stunning Txakolina tastes of the sea, or simply makes you want to dive into the ocean. Either way, it is a summer favourite of ours and immediately transports you to the pintxos bars of San Sebastian and the Basque country of Spain. The green-tinted liquid turns chalkywhite, foams and eventually settles, retaining a lively spritz. The best wines are produced around the fishing village of Getaria where the vineyards are cut into incredibly steep terraced slopes overlooking the Bay of Biscay. Here you have a polyculture: apples, pears and tomatoes are planted, the vineyards are not weeded, and no chemical sprays are used.

Fresh, light and pretty, this wine is only 10% abv so you can drink with confidence and enjoy it with platters of jamon iberico, calamari and olives.
