Description

Sophie Baron Champagne comes from a family-run property in Charly-sur-Marne, 50 kilometres east of Paris along the Vallée de la Marne subregion. The Baron family owns 38 hectares of sustainably managed vineyards that are largely planted with Pinot Meunier, the dominant grape in the region.

The Champagne is named after Sophie, the daughter of the founders Gabriel and Dolorès. She joined the property in 1982 and works alongside her winemaker brother, Ignace.

The Grand Réserve is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel and is aged on its lees for three years.

This is of straw yellow colour. On the nose it has freshly baked bread & toasted brioche, orange skin, ripe red apples, white blossom; it is dry and crisp on the palate with a fine, smooth mousse. The palate shows tart yellow apples, fresh pear, bitter lemon, ripe peach, toasted bread and toasted nuts. This has a pleasant floral finish and is of excellent value!
