Description

The Scarbolo estate in Lauzacco is located only 15 km from the Italian border with Slovenia. Seven separate vineyards, comprising 30 hectares, are planted to traditional Friulian varieties — Friulano (formerly Tocai Friulano), Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet and Pinot Grigio. This region is known to be the source of all the finest Italian Pinot Grigios.

Scarbolo is a family-operated winery based in the Colli Orientali sub-region of Friuli, and they have been making wines that we have enjoyed for many years.

Fresh white stone fruit and distinct creamy nuttiness in a mouth-watering elegant style, this is proper Pinot Grigio with great depth of flavour and characteristic freshness.

100% Pinot Grigio from two vineyard blocks planted in 2003 and 2004. Yield around 127 quintals. Both vineyards were fermented separately in stainless steel. Aged for seven months on the lees with regular lees stirring. 'August gifted us with many and significant diurnal shifts (courtesy of quarantine-related lower pollution and normalised weather) which show in the wine via an enviable acidity and expression as the polyphenolic ripeness was above standard.' Straw yellow. Concentrated soft pear, melon and tropical-fruit nose. Viscous pear and papaya palate. Full and with nervy acidity running through the fruit.
