The Morey family's history in Chassagne-Montrachet dates back to the 17th century, and they have been making wine for more than a century. Thomas Morey belongs to the tenth generation and, growing up, he helped his grand-parents in the vineyards and later worked for 12 years with his parents. Then, in 2006, he decided to set up his own domaine together with his wife Sylvie and their first vintage was 2007.
Thomas's village appellation Chassagne-Montrachet comes from a single parcel of vines lying at the extreme northern end of the village in a plot called 'Les Houillères' which is bordering the Puligny-Montrachet. The vineyard was planted in 1989 with selected clones from the domaine's older vines, and this cuvée has really come into its own, with consiistent quality year after year.
