Te Whare Ra (‘The House in the Sun’in Maori) is a family run winery located in the Marlborough sub-region of Renwick. Anna & Jason Flowerday bought the property in 2003, wanting somewhere that was small enough for the two of them, but special enough to allow them to really make their mark. The 11 hectares are planted with seven different varietals, with the oldest plantings dating back to 1979.

37-year-old vines, yields are kept low and vineyard management is a combination of organic and biodynamic practices. Anna and Jason firmly believe that biodiversity is the key to maintaining a good vineyard using inter-row planting and crop alternate rows. To combat pests they use natural methods such as buckwheat and fertilise using their own compost and manure.

Gorgeous, lifted aromas of jasmine, fresh lemon and kaffir lime which follow through onto the palate. Flavours of fresh lime juice, lemon sorbet and ripe grapefruit with hints of floral spice are balanced by a fine backbone of ripe acidity. This Riesling is a dry style which has excellent fruit weight and concentration to balance the lingering mineral acid structure. This wine is finely structured with a great length of flavour.
