This single estate wine from the heart of Vinho Verde exhibits more weight and texture on the palate than many from its careful lees stirring and has a particularly long and balanced finish. When Fernando Guedes planted Azevedo, and made the first wine in 1990, he pioneered the production of quality Vinho Verde. He immediately set out to transform the estate by planting 35 hectares of vineyards in this cool, wet part of north-western Portugal, bordered to the north by the Minho River adjacent to Spain, to the west by the Atlantic and to the south by the city of Porto.
This wine is bright yellow in colour. The nose is bursting with ripe stone fruit aromas of peach and apricot. The palate is fresh with ripe fruit flavours balanced with notes from oak ageing, providing creaminess and complexity. The finish is long and lingering.
