Description

A very highly rated property, now up with the best of the St-Juliens but still selling at non-scary prices.Owned by the Cuvelier family since 1920, this property over the last 20 years has made some great wines in the Médoc.

Léoville Poyferré has 80 hectares of vineyards in Saint Julien planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (25%), Petit Verdot (8%) and Cabernet Franc (2%) and is classified as a 2ème Cru Classé.

The Chateaux traditionally produced the softest and most supple wine of the 3 Léovilles, yet in the last decade the wines have definitely put on weight and body. This is largely due to the grapes being harvested riper and later and because of the increased exposure to new oak in the maturation process

This is the Second wine of Château Léoville Poyferré, it benefits from the same care as its big brother, both in the vineyard and in the cellars. Bursting with fruit, this bright, attractive wine is accessible in its youth

The 2019 Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré offers up attractive aromas of sweet cherries and berries mingled with subtle hints of licorice and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, supple and succulent, it's a juicy, fruit-driven second wine with a fleshy core and melting tannins. This is a nicely balanced, uncomplicated second wine which will offer delicious drinking on release. Drink 2021 - 2033. William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
