Núria Altés is a native of Batea, Terra Alta, and her family have been growers for generations. A proud Catalan, Núria is deeply immersed in the history of the region and will gladly recount the stories of her beloved land over a glass of Garnatxa Negra. She worked in local wineries before forming a partnership with her English husband, Rafael De Haan, to start Herència Altés, a project proudly carrying her family`s name in tribute to their work in the vineyards of Terra Alta over many generations.
Grenache - or the locally styled Garnatxa - is the calling card of this up-and-coming quality wine region, and the team at Herència Altés is working tirelessly to put both their beloved region and its flagship grape variety on the world map. The estate combines carefully maintained old vine Garnatxa vineyards and a state-of-the-art winery, every inch of which is designed to lower its impact on the environment, relying almost entirely on solar power and recycling rainfall for use throughout the facility. All of the vineyards are farmed according to organic practices, with all of their cuvees now certified organic. One of Núria`s favourite wines she makes is La Serra, as it pays homage to her grandfather, someone who was very special in her life. Like the 100 year old vines the wine is made from, his life spanned many events and decades and his stories never failed to make her smile.
The single vineyard La Serra old vine vineyard covers a total area of 21, 6 hectares. Much of this farm is planted with Garnatxa Blanca dating back to 1954. The yields are very low, between 0.5 kg and 1 kg per strain, always cared for manually and ecologically, respecting the environment, avoiding the use of pesticides And herbicides.Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeast in concrete tanks with subsequent bâttonages of the fine lees for 5 months to achieve greater creaminess on the palate. Aged for 8 months in a 2500L Austrian oak foudre, in a 600L Austrian oak barrel and in a 600L amphora. Limited production of only 5000 bottles.
A pure Garnatxa blanca estate wine that rivals many a white Burgundy for texture and complexity without the price tag!. The density that shows in the glass, lets us glimpse the potential of this great white, which is only made in the best vintages. The Sierra comes from a rare old vineyard estate of Garnatxa Blanca, the treasure of Terra Alta. Pungent aromas of wax, apricot, peach, spices and lemon peel. In the mouth it has a fresh entry, with a lot of concentration and minerality. Dense and creamy mid palate, with a persistent finish. Very elegant.
Perfect with a Salmon tartar.
