Producer: Vicentini Agostino
Winemaker: Agostino Vicentini
Region: Veneto
Country: Italy
Vicentini Agostino is a family winery, currently run by the 4th generation. They are located in north-east Italy's Veneto region about 15km from Verona. The Illasi Valley is particularly important in regards to wine production, as this is where Soave and Valpolicella regions come together.
The winery holds vineyards in various different 'terroirs'. Terrelunghe, a blend of Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave, comes from limestone soil, whereas 'Il Casale' is an old vine (about 60 years) single vineyard located at the foot of an extinct volcano, with soil rich in minerals. Vicentini Agostino's red wines come from the hills of Campiano, a small village located 400-600 meters above sea level. Soil tends to be much more rocky and gives more structure to wines. These are a young vineyards, planted in terrasses.
The family works after high quality standards, and this includes an enormous amount of manual work in the vineyards, tending vines, and making sure yields are kept fairly low. Respecting nature is their philosophy and no herbicides are ever used. Instead they work with cover crops between the rowns to attract natural predators to insects and vineyard pests. From 2021 Vicentini Agostino are even starting to convert to biodynamic farming.
