Description

Ramey Wine Cellars was founded in 1996 by David Ramey and his wife Carla, after David had worked for almost two decades at such famous wineries as Matanzas Creek and Dominus. "Owning one's own winery is the dream of every winemaker,"; David says, looking back on the path that led him to build his own.
Located just off the town square in Healdsburg, the winery is perfectly placed to make use of the great Sonoma and Carneros terroir famous for the quality of their Chardonnays. Ramey's philosophy is to make hand-crafted wines made in an Old World tradition, coupled with New World innovation.

Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon play the leading roles at Ramey, with most of the Chardonnay coming from the cool Sonoma where proximity to the coast gives more exposure to the morning fogs. The Cabernet is all classic Napa. A Sonoma Syrah was added in 2004 and they have subsequently diversified the range with parcels of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir which David could not resist trying his hand at.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum, blended with 25% Cabernet Franc, offers pure aromas of red cherries, blackcurrants, dried thyme, cedar, tobacco leaves and rose petals. The full-bodied palate blossoms with layer after layer of nuanced fruit. It has a seamless structure, with lacy tannins, integrated yet persistent freshness and a tremendously long finish. 430 cases were made. 96 pts Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate
