The Zafeirakis family have been making making wine in the Tyrnavos area for more than 100 years. Christos Zafeirakis is the fourth generation and is considered to be one of the promoters of finesse in Greek winemaking. His reputation is closely linked to the revival of rare Limniona grape (Greece's answer to Pinot Noir!), but also produces exceptional white wines from varieties such as Malagousia and Chardonnay.
This comes from 15-25 year old vineyards which are grown on sandy-clay soils with high concentration of flint in the area of Tirnavos from the Foothills of Mt Olympus and was fermented with the wild yeasts naturally occuring in the vineyards. Altitude varies from 200 to 300m. Aged in stainless steel for 5 months.
‘This is of pale, almost water-white lemon yellow with subtle green highlights. The nose is pure with yellow pear and lemon skin and a restrained, subtle stony minerality. On the palate this has intense stone fruits, jasmine and white orchard blossom. The wine is bone dry with a light lees texture, medium acidity and delicate bitter herbs with a hint of pine needle. Perfect for summer drinking.'Anja Breit, Philglas & Swiggot
