The family of the Comte Armand has owned the vineyard of Clos des Epéneaux and the winery buildings in Pommard since 1826 when Jean-François Armand married Clothilde Marey. Unfortunately the vineyard was not replanted after phylloxera until 1930, but since then it has confirmed its rating as one of Pommard’s very finest sites.

The domaine, which is totally biodynamic and follows the lunar calendar, totals 9 hectares – 5 hectares of which are the magnificent 1er Cru monopole Clos des Epeneaux, responsible for the deepest, richest, most intensely concentrated and longest lived wines in Pommard. Their Volnay and Auxey-Duresses are all purity, finesse and elegance. The grapes are 100% destemmed and whole berries are retained, without crushing. Prefermentation maceration is 5-8 days at 13 degrees C.Alcoholic fermentation lasts between 5-10 days and there is a post-fermentation maceration of around 14 days. The wines then spend between 18-24 months in barrel – ranging from no new oak for the village wines and 30% for the Clos. The wines are usually bottled unfined and unfiltered. Under the stewardship of the previous régisseur, Benjamin Leroux, some of the finest red wines in the Côte de Beaune were being crafted. This trend is continuing under the equally impressive Paul Zinetti, who joined the domaine in 2010.

A terrific value red Burgundy from a top estate. Fruit led with rich soft undertones and a bold deep finish.
