Larry Turley and winemaker Tegan Passalaqua continue to produce a fantastic range of wines from some of California's oldest, head-pruned, dry-farmed Zinfandel vineyards. They have managed to persuade the owners of some of California's finest old vineyards to let them take total control of viticulture; farming organically (their own vineyards are also biodynamic), reducing yields to extremely low levels and picking very late. Yes they are high in alcohol, but they are also very pure, fine expressions of their individual terroirs.
Pesenti Vineyard was planted in the 1920s on limestone in Paso Robles, a region famed for its ripeness and warmth but also surprising freshness, thanks to the cool Pacific breezes that flow in via the Templeton gap. The Pesenti Zinfandel is a great counterpoint to Cedarman, being adorned with masses of bright red fruits and floral overtones conveying brightness and charm rather than muscularity and power. As with all Turley wines the vineyards are farmed organically and made as naturally as possible.
The Pesenti is beautifully aromatic and sensuous, the layers of flavour and creaminess makes this sensuous and charming.
