Larry Turley and winemaker Tegan Passalaqua continue to produce a fantastic range of wines from some of California's oldest, head-pruned, dry-farmed Zinfandel vineyards. They have managed to persuade the owners of some of California's finest old vineyards to let them take total control of viticulture; farming organically (their own vineyards are also biodynamic), reducing yields to extremely low levels and picking very late. Yes they are high in alcohol, but they are also very pure, fine expressions of their individual terroirs.
Cedarman is a blend of two amazing vineyards on top of the volcanic Howell Mountain - Dragon and Rattlesnake Ridge. The former is classic red basalt planted at one of the highest elevations in Napa (2,400 feet) planted on an east-facing slope and creating a rich, powerful wine with a spine of spice. Rattlesnake Ridge sits opposite Dragon and faces west towards and sits at 2,600 feet and can attract snow in the winter. This site creates tannic wines with bold acidity giving the wine plenty of structure (aided by the small amount of Petite Sirah in the blend). This is a superb wine for roasting, grilling or ageing and as with all Turley wines the vineyards are farmed organically and made as naturally as possible.
