Santo Spirito is one of the four Crus established by Marco di Grazia in the mid 2000s, reflecting the diversity of site personality across the slopes of Mt Etna. All four Crus are made in the same way so vineyard expression comes through in the wine.
Santo Spirito is very high at 750m above sea level, but rather than producing a restrained, austere style of wine this is full of heady perfume and is seductively rich on the palate. Made from 50-100 year old vines the soil is volcanic ash, its fertile richness resulting in a green, vinous paradise full of sub-tropical abundance. Santo Spirito is a great Cru to begin the exploration of the premium range - its charm and sensuous, silky texture can be instinctively appreciated as one reminisces about its similarity to Chambolle-Musigny.
