Su'Entu Cannonau di Sardegna 2016

Sardiginia’s Cannonau is known elsewhere as Grenache/Garnacha, and thanks to its propensity to late ripening and preference for warm to hot climates, it’s a style of wine that is rarely deeply coloured, and to me has always been affected with a boiled sweet simplicity. This wine is a recent discovery and the most beautiful Cannonau I can recall tasting. The vineyard is close to the sea and exposed to cooling winds (the name Su’Entu is an allusion this), rather than the elevated and baking interior of the island, bringing an extraordinary perfume redolent with violets and tangerines, while the palate is almost like warm climate Pinot Noir, laced with super silky tannins and further acquaintance with tangerine acidity. I’ve tasted the wine on two occasions and ended up drinking the rest of the bottle later that evening both times. A wine that will make you smile with its ease, charm and grace.
