Description

With more than 50 hectares of vineyards in the Peloponnese and Attica, and with wineries in Anavyssos and Nemea, Strofilia is one of the most dynamic Greek wineries which was initially started by two friends in the 1980s.

‘Mountain Fish’ was made entirely from Agiorgitiko grapes (St George), one of Greece’s two best known red varietals. The grapes come from vineyards in the Stymphalia plateau, in deep, clay, alkaline soils with a lot of calcium carbonate. The climate of the area is characterized by cold winter, a lot of rain and snow, cool spring and dry summer, with higher temperatures during the day and cooler in the evenings which helps to retrain freshness in the grapes.

The wine has a relatively short maceration and is not oaked.

'This is of medium ruby colour. The nose offers rich, dark plummy and forest berry fruit with hints of tomato leaf. Medium bodied on the palate, this has ripe and round tannins which are balanced with good acidity. Enjoy this with grilled meat or home-made pizza.'Anja Breit, Philglas & Swiggot
