Established in 1944 by the Lindner Family, St Hallett represents the very spirit and soul of winemaking in the Barossa. Over this time, it has grown and changed and reinvented itself, to achieve a rare distinction as one of Australia’s most respected wine brands. For most of that time it was owned, or part owned, by one family, the pioneering Lindners, who arrived in the Barossa from Silesia in 1838. From the beginning, St Hallett understood the importance of saving old vines and focusing on varieties that thrive in the Barossa region – particularly Shiraz. The 2017 vintage commenced about four weeks later than the previous five, and was coined by many as the ‘old normal’, with the first Shiraz was ready on 4th March. Mild temperatures through February provided a steady ramp-up in crushing. Shiraz has delivered an exciting array of styles from vibrant flavoursome wines through to rich and complex styles with great texture and cellaring potential. The 2017 vintage was preceded by a favourable season in the Barossa that allowed all vineyards to produce both strong yields and high quality, and has delivered some absolute standout wines from pedigree
Red-brown loam over shale and red clay vineyards in the South and Central Barossa Valley enable us to create wine parcels of generosity of flavour, length and texture. Dark berry fruits combine with a lively palate entwined with pepper spices and chocolate tones. A long savoury finish is coated in soft tannins to complete this rich and generous palate.
