Brothers Peter and Ulrich Griebeler took over the running of their family winery in 2014.
After apprenticing with famous local wineries, like Fritz Haag, Peter Griebeler studied viticulture and gained further experience in Germany and abroad. Ulrich Griebeler also worked in Germany and at the Hofstätter estate in South Tyrol before returning home.
The two brothers have expanded their vineyards which are located in the Zeltingen sites of Sonnenuhr, Schlossberg and Himmelreich, from 3 to 7 hectares. Riesling is their most important grape variety, but they also produce some Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Their wines are fermented traditionally in the cool underground cellars, partly in Fuder (big, old oak barrels), partly in stainless steel. Extended lees contact gives extra texture and complexity to their wines.
This Auslese quality is gloriously sweet and has a clean, pure, yet rich mouth-feel. There’s also an attractive touch of citrus peel pith that overlays the core of lusciously candied lime fruit, giving a ying and yang of sweetness matched with savoury and mineral undertones. Gentle floral notes link up with delicate aromas of fruit, which are reminiscent of local orchards. The palate stimulates the taste buds with a delicate expression of multi-faceted nuances of juicy fruit and fresh herbs.
