Radio-Coteau (rā’ dē ō – kō tō’) adj. A French colloquial expression suggesting “word of mouth”. Literal Translation: broadcasting from the hillside, Origin: Northern Rhone.

In summer of 2012, Radio-Coteau acquired an historic 42-acre Estate vineyard and ranch located on a ridgetop above the town of Occidental. Originally named Joseph Morelli & Sons before Prohibition, the Lemorel winery (as it was later known) dates back to 1892, when the first vines were planted. Situated 800 feet above sea level, the property is a diverse agroecosystem settled on prized Goldridge soil. Tbey continue to maintain the established blocks of Syrah and old-vine dry-farmed Zinfandel, and recently replanted existing acreage to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Eric’s own history with the property dates back to the early 2000s. While scouting vineyard sites for the first Radio-Coteau vintage, one interest lay in old dry-farmed Zinfandel, unique in California. He met and began a relationship with Robert Von Weidlich, the owner of the property at that time. The 2002 Radio-Coteau Von Weidlich Zinfandel was the first product of that collaboration.

The Las Colinas Syrah is indicative of what is possible for cool-climate Syrah as it captures the essence of the western Sonoma Coast appellation. Élevage in 500-liter French oak puncheons helps to preserve fruit and spice, and affords graceful aging in the cellar. By fermenting a greater percentage of whole clusters, the ripe stems of Las Colinas produced a heady, savory expression with naturally high acidity. black fruit flavours and earthy complexity. Fresh and bright; damson and plum fruit on the palate; firm tannins on the finish.

'This has a deep ruby core, with purple tinches, and extracted, coloured tears. Exhuberant, absolutely excellent nose. Dark plums and berries of the forest with baking spice, cured meat and black pepper; Palate is elegant, medium bodied, medium tannins roundly poslished but textured, hints of barynard and fresh black fruit.
