Plantagenet have been one of the best producers in Western Australia's exotically distant Great Southern region - a place that's a bare 300km drive from Perth, itself just another 2,700km from the next nearest city, which would be Adelaide. Great Southern may be unfathomably remote but its also cool and dry, with pockets of elevation contributing to natural elegance. I think this is one of our discovery wines in Australia of the past two years. Tight coiled and seriously minded, young but powerful, and taking life far more seriously than one might expect. Ripped with grapefruit pithiness and fine steely acidity this tastes like it should be three times the price. What astonishing value.
