The Douro Valley is proving itself a wonderful playground for makers of white wines which is unusual because isn't this a heavy fortified port country? Well Niepoort have the answer and are producing some of the best whites today. By picking very early in August, choosing North-Facing high altitude vineyard sites to plant on and cool short ferments.
Nothing has changed with the grapes though, this is a blend of the usual white port grapes: Côdega de Larinho, Rabigato, Gouveio (Godello), Dona Branca, Viosinho and Bical. Grown on mica and schist we also get a certain rocky undertone.
