Christophe Drouard is a real star in Muscadet. He owns 16 hectares with an average age of 40 years situated around the commune of Monnières. Under the new legislation from 2012 most of their vineyards became 'Grand Cru' land.
The wine is vinified underground in glass-lined vats, and rests on its lees throughout the winter. It is not fined and just receives a light filtration prior to bottling.
'This has a pale lemon-yellow, the nose is filled with fresh yellow stone-fruit and pear, white peach white flowers and hints of lees / pilsner beer yeast along with subtle white pepper spice. Dry and crisp on the palate with juicy yellow apple and lemon skin; there is a light texture and chalky minerality too. This offers excellent value.' Anja Breit, Philglas & Swiggot
