Sweet red fruit on the nose, dried flowers, sweet spices and stony minerals, raspberry and cherry. Vibrant and vivacious on the palate with gorgeous lavender, wild blueberry and strawberry fruit. Compact, taut and really well put together.
The talented Nikos Karatzas studied in Bordeaux then became chief winemaker at a very young age at the high-profile Pavlidis winery, also in Drama, before setting up his own project in 2015 for which he finds the best vines in Greece's best sites.
This Limniona comes from a small vineyard, in Messenikola, Karditsa. Watching closely the whole process, Nikos chooses the right time for the manual harvest. After strict sorting, fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, in large open barrels.
Following this the wine matures in 60% amphora with the rest in 500 litre oak barrels - this is very limited with only 1.300 bottles produced.
'This is of medium ruby colour. The nose is pure and elegant of baked wet earth, forest berries, hints of herbs and stems, there is also an element of smoke and peppery notes. Dry and medium bodied on the palate, this is a light red with fine tannins - perfect for summer drinking or a Greek wine to try for Pinot Noir lovers!' Anja Breit, Philglas & Swiggot
