Domaine Justin Girardin is very much a family affair, with a winemaking heritage that stretches back to the beginning of the 19th century. His father Jacques (brother of Vincent) handed over the running of the 17 hectare family domaine in Santenay to his son Justin in 2012. Whilst not being organically certified, Justin follows many organic principles as he is passionate about producing wines that express their terroir.
The name of the Cru ‘Maladière’ signifies a hospital that existed near here in the distant past to care of lepers. Justin owns 0.7 hectares of 40-45 year old vines in this elegant yet less well known 1er Cru. Matured in 20% new oak for 18 months the wine is aromatic and refined hinting at raspberry & loganberry mingled with a subtle floral note. Elegant, mineral and precise with noticeable freshness. Drink from late 2018/early 2019.
