We are delighted to launch the first of our structured wine courses at Philglas & Swiggot which will focus on Italy, a nation dear to our hearts and stomachs but which is often a challenge for many of us to understand. For anyone planning a holiday to Italy this is the ideal primer for successful wining and dining.
Battersea local resident and fellow Master of Wine, Michelle Cherutti-Kowal, will be leading this 2 night course over successive weeks. Week 1 will be the south of Italy, while week 2 will focus on the north.
Michelle is a dual Italian/Canadian citizen who left corporate life in Toronto moving to London (UK) to pursue her passion for wine. Today she is a highly-respected wine lecturer, having taught wine industry professionals since 2004 at the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) in London where she a consultant tutor. She has authored articles on wines, wine regions and wine-related events in trade publications and WSET journals. Michelle is a frequent guest wine expert at major wine shows including Prowein, Vinitaly, The London Wine Trade Fair, The France Show, Taste of London and the Real Food Show. She has been interviewed and featured in BBC Breakfast, Cooked.com, uk.glam.com, the Food and Wine section of the Independent newspaper and featured in The Shift column of the “i” newspaper.
Michelle is a Chair Judge and member of the Technical Committee for the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) and has judged other international competitions including the International Wine Challenge, South Africa’s Veritas and ABSA Pinotage Top Ten competitions, Spain’s Bacchus International competition, Every Day Bordeaux, and Roussillon’s Saint-Bacchus Awards. Michelle consults to restaurants, wineries and is an ambassador for trade bodies utilising her specialist knowledge of wine areas.
