Intellego Wines are terroir driven from the Swartland Appellation. The Swartland experiences a warm, dry climate which is favourable to grape varietals such as Chenin Blanc, Syrah, Cinsaut and Mourvedre. By using small pockets of land on different sites, Intellego is able to produce wines with different personalities and characters. Intellego’s philosophy is to use minimal intervention and a hands-on approach during the winemaking process.
The wine gets its name from the intern that worked at the estate during the first season of making this wine. When collecting the grapes his only job was to keep the winemaker awake with conversation but 30 minutes into the drive he found himself the only one awake while the co-pilot was sleeping. Whole bunch fermented for 14 days on the skins in open tanks. Aged in old 500L & 300L barrels for 10 months.
