At Giaconda Rick Kinzbrunner has created arguably Australia's greatest Chardonnay and is making a mean fist at its most sensual, aromatic Shiraz (Syrah) and is on the road to make top Nebbiolo. His focus and determination to benchmark himself against the very best wines of the world is compelling. Under the radar and rarely seen is his exceptional Pinot Noir. Combine red fruits of cherry and raspberry with subtle whole-bunch notes and the fresh morning perfume of damp rose petals, it’s an orchestra of aromas and flavours. Clean and lingering on the palate, yet round and textural whilst exhibiting a light frame supported by fine savoury tannins. An essay in controlled power, complexity and authenticity – one of the best expressions of pinot we have achieved at Giaconda so far, comparable to some of the greats from ‘89, 92 and 95.
The Beechworth wine region lies at the foothills of an ancient volcano, on mineral-rich soils, overlaid with granite boulders and outcrops. This Victorian Alps outpost. specialises in the cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varieties.
