St Estèphe is the northernmost of the most important communes of the Médoc, bordering Pauillac on its southernmost border, with only a gully and stream separating it from Ch. Lafite Rothschild. The wines can appear austere in youth, but the best typically display good depth of colour, pronounced acidity and tannins in youth, and are exceptionally long-lived. At their best, they are the equal of almost any Bordeaux.

Created in 1986, Frank Phélan, the second wine of esteemed St Estephe estate Château Phelan Segur, bears the name of the son of Bernard Phélan, founder of the estate. Frank Phélan comes from 15 hectares of old vines and a selection of vines of less than ten years. It respects the classic values of the Château by expressing another facet of its terroir.

Frank Phélan associates indulgent fruit, intense and compelling, with an elegant structure of silky tannins. It undergoes 14 months’ ageing. Its roundness and suppleness allow it to be enjoyed from a young age.
