Located in Vosne-Romanee and in the highly capable hands of Guillaume Tardy, Domaine Jean Tardy is now recognised as one of the leading producers in the Côte d'Or. Originally the vineyards were entirely leased from Domaine Méo-Camuzet, and, 30 years later, these still make up the majority of Guillaume’s holdings. The family have over the years added to these and the domaine now has 5 hectares of vineyards in Nuits-St-Georges, Vosne Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny.
Fixin continues to attract smart buyers given its similarities in structure & weight to Gevrey Chambertin but at a more attractive price point
The style here is full and flavorful, with plenty of fruit, flesh and structure. In the cellar, the grapes are entirely destemmed and see at least one week's cold soak at 10 degrees, followed by classical macerations in stainless steel. Élevage is in barrels from Tonnelleries Meryieux and Montgillard, favoring Allier oak
The 2020 Fixin La Place, which will have around one-third new oak, has a well-defined bouquet with black cherries and bilberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite fleshy and ripe with fine acidity. Lots of red fruit here, quite elegant with fine tension. I almost think that the new oak is going to be superfluous...we will see. Neal Martin, Vinous
