Established in 1991, and investing heavily in meticulous biodynamic viticultural practices (Demeter certified), Felton Road has quickly gained a reputation as one of New Zealand’s leading premium wine producers. The four estate vineyards are all located in Central Otago’s Bannockburn sub-region. The winemaking maintains an emphasis on natural winemaking in a gravity flow winery: practices such as whole cluster, wild yeasts, and an absence of fining and filtration are hallmarks of Felton Road’s wines.
From their first vintage in 1997, Felton Road’s wines have attracted international enthusiasm for their ability to show clarity of place over a winemaker fingerprint. Winemaker Blair Walter attributes the high quality and individuality to the distinct Central Otago soils and climate, the north-facing hillside vineyard sites and meticulous care of the vines with an emphasis on an understanding of each unique location.

Felton Road Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2016 (2 bottles)
A blend of all the sites, including many of the younger plantings, and thus the true representation of the Felton Road style and magical quality.
Felton Road Calvert Pinot Noir 2016
A cool site at 200m, this ripens early and shows a fine restraint, red fruits and little more structure and spice than the other wines.
Felton Road Cornish Point Pinot Noir 2016
A fine contrast to Calvert, being a warmer site and showing much more cassis, plum and opulence. A flashy charmer of a wine.
Felton Road Block 3 Pinot Noir 2016
Block 3 has the oldest vines, planted in 1992 on worn, volcanic schist and sand, giving this a wonderful, bright perfume and generous amalgam of red fruits and dark liquorice.
Felton Road Block 5 Pinot Noir 2016
Block 5 has a lot more clay and tends to be deep-seated, more brooding and structured. A little time in the cellar is useful.
