This is the just released 2016 vintage of this exceedingly popular, delicious dry rosé from one of the most beautiful places in France. The Island of Porquerolles off the South Coast of France has been classified a national park and only organic viticulture is allowed. In many ways these are the perfect conditions for organic practice as the vineyards are completely protected from other vegetation by the surrounding sea.
The vineyard is run by Sebastien Le Ber, the descendant of François Fournier who purchased the island in 1910 upon making a considerable fortune discovering silver. While he was on Honeymoon the Island came up for auction, so he purchased it as a wedding gift for his wife Sylvia. The estate makes a red wine from Grenache and Syrah, but importantly they grow grapes especially for the rosé - Cinsault, Tibouren, Mourvedre and Grenache. Crisp and deliciously flavoured with the character of the local Tibouren of Provence, and as the soils are similar to those in nearby Bandol, the lovely Mourvedre grape provides the depth and structure of the red grape skins. This is the rosé that our French customers cannot get enough of. High praise indeed!
