The Scarbolo estate in Lauzacco is located only 15 km from the Italian border with Slovenia. Seven separate vineyards, comprising 30 hectares, are planted with traditional Friulian varieties — Friulano (formerly Tocai Friulano), Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet and Pinot Grigio.
The 'Lara Sunset Scent' comes from a single vineyard, planted in 1993, which was the same year that Valter's (proprietor) daughter Lara was born. After a short period of skin contact, the wine is pressed off into small oak barrels, where it completes fermentation and ages on the lees for 6 months.
Golden yellow in colour with aromas of ripe peach and fresh grapefruit with a hint of vanilla. A beautiful individualistic wine, which shows great tension and balance. A wine to keep an eye on for the future.
100% Chardonnay from the Lara vineyard planted in 1993. After the grapes were crushed and destemmed 30% was macerated in the juice for 24 hours at 8–10 °C. The next day this juice is blended with the rest, after which natural decantation follows. Fermented in stainless-steel tanks for three-quarters of the fermentation, after which 40% is racked off to finish fermentation in tonneaux of French and Slavonian oak and one 20-hl cask. Both batches are aged for 12 months in their respective receptacle, after which they are blended and aged for another 12 months in stainless steel followed by 12 months in bottle. Intense brilliant straw. An almost rich peach, rhubarb and white fruit jelly nose with creamy notes and a suggestion of garden herbs. Citric creamy, lively palate with lemony peach fruit and lemon curd. Pink-grapefruit notes on a long finish. A truly distinctive Chardonnay. (WS) 13.5% Drink 2021 – 2025 Jancisrobinson.com
