Description

Pieter Walser is one of the most innovative winemakers in the world, and is the producer of some of SA’s most coveted wines that you’ve probably never tasted. Within BLANKBOTTLE there are no 2 wines alike and about 30% of the wines are once-off limited editions. Pieter crafts unique wine blends, picking about 35 grape varieties from 60 vineyards around the Cape. Each of his wines is bottled and labelled according to the unique story behind it. The main aim of BLANKBOTTLE wines is to provide an honest, personal taste with no preconceived expectations that come with certain vintages or styles.

'ORBITO FRONTAL CORTEX - the best white blend from my cellar according to my conscious mind, which is called (named after the scientific name for the part of your brain where conscious decisions are made) - Inspired by LIMBIC 2015 (a wine from my subconscious). A blend off - Piekenierskloof Grenache blanc, Swartland Clairette Blanche, Swartland Fernão Pires, Elgin Semillon and Voor Paardeberg Verdelho." Pieter Walser 

 

Every one of Pieter’s wines is a story, rather than a grape variety, and it’s the juice inside the bottle which reveals that story. He doesn’t own any vines, but instead scours South Africa’s winelands for top-quality fruit that has somehow slipped under the radar, now sourcing from nearly 70 sites. Some years he’ll make 20 wines, other years 35. With the benefit of anonymity, variety and regional identity take a back seat while parcel expression does the driving. 'This is of pale golden colour with silver highlights. Semi-aromatic with very delicate white blossom, lemon, peach and delicate yellow stone fruit, underripe exotic on the nose. Palate is dry and medium bodied with good acidity. This has a skin contact texture. Lasts long in the mouth with pleasant bitter floral and exotic fruit.
