Malvasia is an ancient Greek variety, planted in many parts of the world. It’s an old variety even in new world places like California. Malvasia is an aromatic grape, reminiscent of but not as pungent as Muscat – elderflower, lime and jasmine are common descriptions. The aromas suggest a sweet wine, but this is dry, almost flinty and a fantastic food wine. A bit of skin contact in the press drives this dry, grippy texture while a very cool ferment preserve the intense aromas. A stunning version of the variety.
