This is a very driven lemony Assyrtiko on nose, but showing a hint of beeswaxy, toasted cashew textured evolution on palate. Linear and composed, this is an excellent Santorini.
Established in 1903, Estate Argyros is run by Matthew Argyros, 4th generation of winemakers. Based in Episkopi Santorini, the winery owns 120ha of vineyards with ungrafted -original rootstock - phylloxera safe plants averaging 70 years old, including some of the oldest vines on the island which are over 200 years old. Evdemon is the super cuvée of the Estate from only two vineyards in the areas of Pyrgos and Megalochori that are cultivated with biodynamic methods.
'The best Assyrtiko I tried on the MW trip. Lime cordial, ridiculous quality and tension. Gunflint like licking metal while submerged in the sea. A bit of tannin giving lemon zest lick on the finish. Tight on lemon skates. Fine acidity, not explosive. Amazing length.' Justin Knock MW
Biodynamic - not certified. 20% ferments in oak barrels and aged for 6 months.
