Description

Based around the town of Cambados, in the sub-region of Val do Salnés in Rías Baixas, Alberto owns 2.2 hectares of vines, all Albariño, divided into 12 parcels. After a few years of conventional farming, he decided to abandon chemical treatments altogether and became fully organic, although he also dabbles in biodynamics. His vineyards, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, benefit from daily sea breezes while the granitic soils, so common in the region, bring incredible minerality and freshness to his wines. In the winery his approach is as natural as possible, and apart from the use of small amounts of sulfur, he is basically hands-off, allowing each vintage to express itself. The different parcels are vinified separately and then blended to assemble the different cuvées.

The grapes for Soverribas are from 3 vineyards in the Meoño and Ribadumia subregions of Rias Baixas, ranging in vine age from 35-100 years. In the cellar, the grapes are pressed whole-cluster and fermented with native yeasts then rest on the lees in big old fudres for 9 months, with weekly batonnage for the first month.

'This is of pale lemon yellow colour with green tinches showing off its youth. The nose has ripe yellow apple, stone fruits and hints of exotic, guave and unripe mango; The palate is dry, with laser sharp precision of fresh lemon zest and green and yellow apple. It is fine, crystalline textured & pure. Some bayleaf, white pepper, lemon verbena and an almost salty minerality linger on. This is lovely now, but I can see it becoming even more delicious if forgotten in your cellar for a year or two. 2019 was a small vintage for Alberto, and there isn't much of this available.'
