Larry Turley and winemaker Tegan Passalaqua continue to produce a fantastic range of wines from some of California's oldest, head-pruned, dry-farmed Zinfandel vineyards. They have managed to persuade the owners of some of California's finest old vineyards to let them take total control of viticulture; farming organically (their own vineyards are also biodynamic), reducing yields to extremely low levels and picking very late. Yes they are high in alcohol, but they are also very pure, fine expressions of their individual terroirs.
The Old Vines Zinfandel is a blend of grapes from most of the vineyards that Turley farm, with vines planted from 1885 to the 1950s
Turley's 2017 Zinfandel Old Vines screams with varietal character. Succulent dark cherry, leather, tobacco, sage, menthol and crushed flowers give the 2017 myriad shades of dimension. This plump, supple Zinfandel offers considerable near and medium-term appeal.
